Be happy

collaboration with Bella Logacheva,

digitized Hi8 video, 8:23 min.

2005

”Be Happy” offers the story of a girl living on streets. The representative of a social bottom tries to hide her poverty and struggle by imitating the behavior of a model from commercial advertising. This paradoxical situation reveals a new instance of homelessness, in which the individual bears their struggle by behaving in an ideal way, as an absolutely happy person—floating on an inflatable mattress in the river, stirring up soap bubbles, playing with dogs. Lyrics from the Bobby McFarell song "Don`t Worry, Be Happy" take on shape as the chorus for the life of a hero that has nothing to lose.
