Zero. Memorial Plague

Granite, 70 x 130 x 3 cm., 2012

In the popular consciousness, art is something made for the ages, even though this sphere of fragile items and barely perceptible motions generally leaves little for the ages. Mykola Ridnyi’s Memorial Plaque attacks conventions that have long been immune to criticism. His demonstrative nullification of currency values is an assault on the very logic of the modern economy, in which currency fluctuations would seem an eternal and elemental flux.
